A weekend break in Callantsoog by the sea

Getting away from it all, without travelling far. A weekend break in Callantsoog means two or three days of beach, dunes, fresh air and good company — with a comfortable room within walking distance of everything.

Hotel ’t Zwaantje is a small-scale hotel in the heart of the village. Ideal for couples and for families looking for a short stay by the sea without any fuss.

Weekend programme: three days in Callantsoog

Day 1 — arrive and blow away the cobwebs

Arrive during the afternoon, drop your things in your room and head straight for the sea. A first walk on the beach works wonders. Afterwards, settle down on a terrace in the village centre or enjoy the dish of the day at the hotel. Round the day off nicely with a drink at the hotel bar.

Day 2 — a full day

After enjoying our extensive breakfast buffet, the whole day is yours. A few suggestions:

  • A walk through the Zwanenwater, the dune reserve with its dune lakes right next to Callantsoog
  • Hire an e-bike at reception and cycle along the coast towards Groote Keeten, Sint Maartenszee and Petten — or take a route to Schagen or Den Helder
  • An afternoon on the beach with a long lunch at a beach pavilion
  • Shopping and coffee in the village centre
  • If the weather is poor: an indoor outing, such as a visit to the Navy Museum in Den Helder — see Callantsoog in bad weather

Day 3 — one last treat

Take your time over breakfast, check out and fit in one more outing on the way home. A visit to Den Helder (Navy Museum, Fort Kijkduin) or the charming old centre of Schagen is practically on your route back.

Why spend a weekend at Hotel ’t Zwaantje?

  • Everything within walking distance: beach, village and restaurants
  • Small-scale and personal: you are a guest, not a room number
  • An extensive breakfast buffet, so you can start the day at your own pace
  • A lovely destination outside the holiday periods too

When is the best time for a weekend by the sea?

A weekend by the sea is always a good idea, if you ask us.

  • Spring: flowering bulb fields and quiet beaches
  • Summer: terraces, beach pavilions and events in full swing
  • Autumn: bracing walks in peaceful surroundings
  • Winter: fresh sea air and a completely clear head
